I hope you have the opportunity for a nice extended run this summer, after the the break-in period and warranty checks are over.  You are in the best boating area in the known universe!

Congratulations!  Keep us posted on your plans.

Nope not yet !!!!!!!!

Quote from Captain Cook

"The (Vancouver) marina looks quite different this year than last... epecially over Christmas. There's no ice on the river and no snow on the covered slips. . . We've certainly met up with oldfishboatguy - he actually helped the original decision to get a Commander! "

Ya got me. Helped ? HMMMMMMM. Ya know I just usualy confuse people ! Now I have ta re think some of my responces when around the place.

Vancouver Marina is like Commander central. I need ta change

oldfishboatguy to grumpyoldforgetfullfishboatguy.

Ya have ta laugh.

Commanders and owner names. I feel bad not knowing faces and names ta go along with vessel names.

Willy:

... oldfishboat guy ...  You're still a young guy!  It's the fishboat that's old!
Wait 'til you get to my advanced age.

I get up in the morning with a mind like a clean slate ... nada!  I stagger down the hall, splash some water in my face, and notice this guy looking right at me.  He looks familiar, but I don't remember his name.  I wait maybe 4 or 5 minutes for him to introduce himself, but he just stares back at me, not saying a word.  Finally I leave to get some breakfast, and he takes off, too.  When my wife puts the coffee cup in my hand, I tell her about seeing this guy again this morning.  She just gives me that "rolls eyes" look and starts dishing up the eggs.

Wait 'til YOU get OLD, fishboat guy!

OS

Have a great boating summer.  Give a shout if you are coming this way before we pull out in June.

Finally … the wind has quieted down, the rain, snow, sleet, hail haven’t shown for a couple of days … could it be close to boating time.

If we get some good weather between now and the end of May, we would like to get out for a few short trips.  Nothing is carved in stone, but maybe to the Gulf Islands for a few days, maybe as far as Sooke, and definitely north, but likely only to Blind Channel at the furthest at this time.  I would like to take advantage of the high tide periods, during the daylight hours, to visit some of the neat anchorages, fairly close to home, that are tide dependent for the insy-outsy.  When we have been traveling further north in the summers past, we often don’t have the opportunity to overnight at some nice nearby overnight stops, just because the high tide water level doesn’t make it possible to get in and back out in a 25 hour period, at the time we are passing by those locations.

From June 1- July 12 or so, we are planning a 6 week trip, with Ria Sea for company, to New Bella Bella\Shearwater, to take advantage of the long daylight periods, which should allow us to do some touring, and show Ria Sea some of the nice boating areas to the west and north of Port McNeill.  Port McNeill was as far as we got traveling together last summer.  We are planning on 3 weeks out on the IP and 3 weeks back by a different route.  Any time we save on the trip north we will use for side trips from our destination, most likely to Klemtu and a little beyond to Alston Cove and Bay of Plenty in Laredo Inlet, and also a quickie to Ocean Falls if we have time.

We hope to meet up with a boat from Semiahmoo during the last half of July, and do a quick 2 week tour of the “Broughton’s” with them, with Kwatsi Bay and Greenway Sound as their choice of “must see” stops.  From the beginning of August until the weather gets ugly, we will be somewhere between home and Rupert, with no fixed plans at this time.  We may need to be home at the end of August for a trip to the eye-guy.

Go safely and enjoy the beautiful waterways on our coastline.  We hope to meet up with some of you in our travels this summer.

Please continue to post your summer plans and updates here.

Rigg dogg:

Hey, Randy!  Time to re-open the Farmer's Almanac!  That Highland Hairy little whippersnapper of yours is more than 3 months old now!  We hope to be taking off in June and the wife thinks she needs an update on the photo of little Levi!  Levi has been our wallpaper on both our computers from the day you posted the photo above - we both took the one of him looking through the fence.  If it is convenient to post one here, I know she would appreciate it.

Our boat is up on the blocks at the moment, getting some hard paint on the bottom.  That hard epoxy is so much better than the ablative.  It's nice to have it last more than one season.

We plan to be out for 6 weeks with Ria Sea, and maybe an additional 2 weeks with a boat from Semiahmoo.  That wind and rain last night was a little discouraging tho'.  C'mon SUMMER!

Hello Old Salt

Good to hear from you.
Sounds like you and the wife are going to be having ANOTHER great summer of boating. Making me VERY JEALOUS!!!

That Hairy Highlander that your wife is so fond of was just about SUPPER the other night.
A shot of 21 yr old Scotch would probably go down pretty nice after some tender Veal  Grin.
I fenced off a 40 acre piece so the Highlanders had a little room to roam. About an hour after I turned them loose he figured he would show me his new trick.
Crawling between the strands of Barb wire, 4 strand fence with 1 ft between strands and he can manage to slip between them.
After about an hour long rodeo I managed to get him back in. I'm getting to old to be cowboying it up.

Anyways, I am up @ work right now but will be home in a week and will post some pics of the not so little BUGGER.  There might be some potatoes and gravy next to him though if he is still doing his magic act.
Big talk !! my daughters would probably disown me if  I did anything to their Precious Levi.

We are going up to the QCI July 3. Going to leave Sandspit, head down the Skidegate channel and camp out @ Rennell sound. Do some fishing around there and Kano Inlet. Might head North up to Hippa island if we get some good weather.
Picked up some charts the other day and did a little studying. Looks pretty Skinny through the channel. We’ll just take our time going through @ high tide.

Staying there for 9 days then going to cross the Hecate and leave the boat in Rupert and come back up in August.

I just noticed there is a 1983, 30 ft commander with new power @ Canmar. Might have to make a call.

Bye for now

Randy

Hey, Randy!

"... Making me VERY JEALOUS!!! ... "

What do you have to be jealous about??

"We are going up to the QCI July 3. Going to leave Sandspit, head down the Skidegate channel and camp out @ Rennell sound. Do some fishing around there and Kano Inlet. Might head North up to Hippa island ..."

Who else here is going to the Queen Charlottes this summer?  ... I didn't think so!

"  ... Staying there for 9 days then going to cross the Hecate and leave the boat in Rupert and come back up in August.  ... "  Two trips!   Nobody here is feeling sorry for you, Randy!

Where are you going to camp out ...  At Gospel Point or way down in the Basin where the west wind won't find you so easily?  What's the attraction at Hippa Island ... the fishing?

Where will you go from Rupert?  Lax Kw'alaams/Port Simpson or farther up Portland Inlet?  Port Edward and South Chatham and the Skeena?

Sounds like a pretty decent summer of boating.  Will the kids be taking Levi along for a boat ride?

"I just noticed there is a 1983, 30 ft commander with new power @ Canmar. Might have to make a call."

The photos make it look pretty nice, Randy.  The twin Yanmar 4's at 240 hp should get you across Hecate in short order.

I am not feeling sorry for you with that trip out to the west coast of Graham Isalnd on your schedule this summer.  Enjoy!

Rogue- No plans for 2010.. M-in-Law, still defying the odds.. Wife on schedule, to spend most of summer in her care..Boat is ready, tank full...A couple of projects but nothing serious...So after a couple of glasses of wine, I think I will head for the booze locker and get me a nice glass of Scotch. And just think about things, and just think about things, and just think about things..Sounds good, I am on my way..

Rogue:

It's a hard time for you and your wife and Mum-in-Law, when the family is close in spirit, and far apart in geography.

We wish you well, and will try to get some smiles out of you by relating the names we have given to all the new rocks we will have introduced Stalwyn to, over the course of the summer.

The boat is back in the water today and we will bring it "home" tomorrow and start packing for the summer's cruises.

Take care.
